Surgery Preparation: 

1. In some instances, we have our patients begin an antibiotic one day prior to surgery. Please call the office with the phone number for your pharmacy.
2. It is recommended that a driver be arranged for a ride to and from your surgical appointment.
3. You should eat a light meal prior to your appointment.
4. Dress in loose, comfortable clothing.
5. No make-up.
6. Please contact the office if you are running a temperature or are ill the day before your surgery.

Post-surgical Instructions:

1. Cold soft foods are recommended for the first 24 hours after surgery.
2. After the first day, a soft, bland diet is recommended.
3. Use an ice pack, 5 minutes on and 10 minutes off, at the surgery site for the first 24 hours.
4. No heavy lifting or running up and down stairs for the first 24 hours after surgery.
5. No exercising for 72 hours after surgery.
6. Use a warm salt water rinse starting the day after surgery.
7. Call the office if you have a high temperature or acute swelling after surgery.
8. Slight bleeding is expected for the first several days after surgery.
9. Brush as instructed.

Recommended foods for after surgery:

Soft bland foods including, mashed potato and gravy, cottage cheese, eggs, yogurt, ice cream, jello, mushed up vegetables, etc.

If you are not eating well after surgery, try a nutritional supplement such as ensure.
